4.23 SOTD

Happy Sunday, everybody! Hope you’ve had a good weekend so far. Here’s today’s SOTD.

oh

Hawthorne Heights’ “Ohio Is for Lovers” is such a tune, and I think it really opened up the post-hardcore scene to many people. I was in middle school when this song was released, and I remember thinking it was one of the coolest things I’ve ever heard because the song has Ohio in it—the state I’m from.

I have to thank my older sister for this one because as a 12-year-old, I never would have never discovered this band, or any of the older bands I’ve listened to for the past 10+ years that with whom some of my friends aren’t familiar. It’s just unfortunate that the guy who did the dirty vocals, Casey Calvert, died in ’07. I remember how tragic that was…ugh, that was crazy!

The line “I know it’s hard to feel like I don’t care at all” in the first verse is VERY relatable, but I think I can vouch for every Ohioan when I say that the beginning of the chorus hits home, even if most of us hate Ohio.

And I can’t make it on my own.
(And I can’t make it on my own.)
Because my heart is in Ohio.
